ORCHYD Grants
On an annual basis the ORCHYD Trustees assess whether there is capacity to set aside a sum of money which can be used for grant requests during that particular year.
Guidance For Grant Applicants
Grant requests are considered where the direct beneficiary is a child or children with one or more confirmed physical disabilities.
Applications are reviewed by the Board of Trustees of ORCHYD at their regular meetings, which usually take place in February, July and October each year. Your application has a greater chance of being approved if it is received in good time - ideally by the end of the month preceding the Trustees’ meetings. Applicants are usually informed shortly after each meeting of the Trustees response to their request for funds.
Approval is typically given for Grant requests covering:
- items ranging from specialist equipment, play gear to toys that would specifically help a child's development
- contributions towards respite care or play schemes.
In order to avoid applicants spending time submitting applications unlikely to be approved, please note that the Trustees rarely, if ever, approve grant applications covering items or activities of general benefit to the entire family rather than being focused on the needs of a child/children with disabilities.
Grant applications may be made by:
- an organisation, providing it has similar aims to ORCHYD
- An individual, in which case we recommend that the application is supported in writing by a professional (eg. a doctor, physiotherapist, teacher or care worker), verifying that
the item or activity, for which funding us being sought, is suitable for the child/children in question.

“ORCHYD’s 10 day holiday allowed our family, including my daughters, to have an opportunity to have days out – without the worry and stress. I want to say to other families that it is a great opportunity for the whole family!”
